I Got a Wii for Christmas
A poem I wrote about one of the greatest moments in my childhood. It’s as romantic as it is comedic.
Time stood still the first time I saw you
Emotions filled my head and overflowed
Through my mouth and my eyes and my ears
Things people had shown me about you
Contrasting with our first encounter
They told me of your delicate nature
Fragile as petals of white daisies
What stood before my younger self was indeed delicate
But it was also bold
Sleek as a silky black nightgown
Donning countless fantastical accessories
Many would turn you away out of mere confusion
But it only enticed me further
You were short in stature, yet I knew it to be semblance
For the power you held within
Noticeably thin, you reminded me of a domino
A domino that rippled through my life as you fell into it
The years with you flew by like a brilliant dream
But dreams always come to an end
So that we can dream more dreams anew
Still with me after all this time
Now dust your closest attachment
Still standing as bold and sleek as when we first met
Now surrounded by those who have surmounted you
But even in the face of higher highs and brighter brilliance
I sometimes become nostalgic for dreams I once dreamt
